The Accordionistic Dovetail Joint

Elsewhere on this site, we took a single number line and cut it several times to reveal a matrix of overlapping yins and yangs, that would help us determine certain predispositions of various cards, before we ever look at the symbolic meaning carried by their association to our corresponding model of existence. In the creation of this matrix the Minor Suits were seen to have a special relationship with regard to describing analytical vs synthetical concepts. After assigning suit signs to this matrix, it was determined that the suit of Coins and Staves would reveal the analytical/tangible side of each number along a line, while the suit of Cups and Swords would reveal the synthetical/Intangible side of each number along a line.

The relationship of analytical to synthetical was compared to a piano octave, where an analytical mind is seen as comparable to the step-by-step scales on a piano, and a synthetical mind is comparable to patterned chords on a piano. Elsewhere on this site, two number lines were also used to explain the relationship between our model of existence itself, and its opposite non-model of non-existence. In accepting a bias toward the description of existence over that of non-existence, a description of non-existence will now be accomplished through the logical opposure of one against the other, thereby making the invisible, visible, by way of reasonable deductions.

THE ACCORDION (Horizontal)

To accomplish the task of reasoned opposures, we will employ another clever pattern - The Accordionistic Dovetail Joint. Actually, as the name implies, The Accordionistic Dovetail Joint is two patterns in one. The first part - the Accordion - is used to describe the expandability of the model into the realm of its surrounding non-model environment. It does this by translating each number of our number line into a series of inverted triangles with expandable bases and finite points that do not expand.

The Accordion analogy shows how the number line is expandable.

Because each number on the number line is seen as an alternate expression of balance or flux, giving each number an alternating up or down triangle shows how the finite nature of one number will govern the expandable nature of another, and vice versa. In other words, if one number increases in value, it simultaneously increases the value of all others like it with a similar up or down triangle, and they will in turn decrease the value of their triangular opposites.

THE DOVETAIL JOINT (Vertical)

But, as the name implies, there’s a lot more to The Accordionistic Dovetail Joint diagram than just a representation of the model’s accordionistic mechanism of expansion. By re-applying the idea of inverted triangles, The Accordionistic Dovetail Joint diagram can also be used to represent, the idea of diminishing returns between existence and non-existence. In this way The Accordionistic Dovetail Joint reveals how these two ideas are intimately inter-connected, in a way that resembles a dovetail joint.

The Dovetail Joint shows how existence and non-existence are linked together in an interdependence of form.

In being a series of dovetail joints, The Accordionistic Dovetail Joint diagram shows how all numbers in the non-model number line will be completely opposite in character, to the numbers in the tangible finite number line that represent the finite model. It also shows how our model, and its opposite non-model are linked together in an interdependence of form. We can see how this is so by observing how the finite beginning, middle and end points of the model’s number line are represented by triangle points, while the lack of such definition is represented, in the non-model side, by triangle bases with no such convergence.

The Accordionistic Dovetail Joint combines two ideas together. An accordion shows expandability. A doevetail joint shows linked interdependence. This leads to a "greater than - less than" or "more of this equals less of that" relationship between concepts of existence and non-existence.

NOTE: The Non-Model is not nothingness. The Non-Model is nothingness... altered by the wave nature of existence. The Model is nothingness... altered by the particle nature of existence.

Greater Than - Less Than

The Accordionistic Dovetail Joint diagram reveals many interesting things about the nature of existence vs. non existence. For example: on the non-existence side, triangle bases show us how non-existence is all about the [Infinte Expanse], [Invisible Bond], and [Amorphous Unity] of the continuum of empty space that surrounds existence. While triangle points show us that non-existence is also about [Relative Space/Time] and [Fluctuating Probability]. Conversely, on the existence side, triangle bases show us that existence has a [Radiating Atmosphere] and [Aggregate Mass]. While triangle points show us that existence is all about defining a [Corporeal Surface], [Defined Center] and [Finite Limits].

When we follow each number back and forth, from expandable base to terminal vertex, we see how the gradual decline of any one of these concepts to a triangle point equals the gradual expanse of another concept to a triangle base, and vice versa. Because of this, The Accordionistic Dovetail Joint diagram reveals a condition of diminishing returns between one concept and another - between existence and non-existence.

Applying a ‘greater than - less than’, or ‘more of this = less of that’ system to the matrix of Minor Suits, is how we reveal the non-model’s form through its logical opposure to finite concepts. By combining all our model and non-model analogies together, we can begin to draw detailed conclusions about the relationship between like numbers of different suits.

The Accordionistic Dovetail Joint is applied to two suits at a time, one to describe the positive aspects of existence and one to describe the negative aspects of existence.

Traversing the Dovetail Joint (vertical)

So far we have shown how a vertical traverse of The Accordionistic Dovetail Joint diagram produces a more of this = less of that situation between model and non-model forces. But in fact, there are more ways to read this diagram than the greater than less than traverse. There are in fact, four ways to read this diagram. Each technique gives us just a little more insight into the nature of our model and its corresponding non-model.

The first way to read The Accordionistic Dovetail Joint diagram is to read straight across its top or bottom as alternating vertices and expandable bases. Reading The Accordionistic Dovetail Joint diagram this way duplicates the alternating action and non-action found in various number line models put forth elsewhere on this site.

Another way to read is from suit to suit in a zig-zag fashion, reading each vertex or each expandable base.

Another way is to read across each suit as complete converging or expanding triangles, one idea leading right into the next.

Lastly, it can be read straight through its middle as a balance of both model and non-model. In which case, moving off of center would simultaneously lead each vertex or expandable base toward an expression of either model or non-model.

The most common way to read The Accordionistic Dovetail Joint diagram is either the balanced way (through the middle), or across the top or bottom.

When we read The Accordionistic Dovetail Joint diagram across the top, we see how the terminal points of the odd numbers describe the finite shape of the model. The 1/9 vertices (representing finite definition of a concept) contain the other numbers. While on the other side, the infinite scope of the non-model is revealed by the expandable base of those same triangles. Likewise, the open ends of the 3, 5, and 7 triangles show how the non-model has no center and no form, while conversely the points of these same triangles converge to show how the model does have a finite center and form.

If we read The Accordionistic Dovetail Joint diagram the balanced way (through the middle), the ‘more of this = less of that’ system is employed. Now we can see how the expanded side of the number 9 triangle represents the absence of definition and the vacuity of nothingness, while the terminal point of the number 8 triangle, next to it, represents the absence of any atmosphere. In this example, we see (metaphoricall, through triangle shapes) how the vacuum of nothingness draws out the 8’s energy to its triangular demise. While conversely, an increase of that same energy triangle (the 8) necessitates the definition of the number 9’s triangle, to a point of finite containment.

Because this dovetail connection is also part of an accordion who’s parts expand and contract in unison, the increase of energy, represented by the base of the number 8 triangle, is also intimately connected to the increase of the 4/6 mass. Together, the expanding bases of these triangles causes a convergence of neighboring triangles which come together to define the surface of the model by altering the non-model’s 3/7 triangles of non-reality into finite points of tangible reality. Thus by using the ‘more of this = less of that’ system, we show how an application of energy, in the form of mental concentration, can actually push aside finite limitations and expand one’s universe of knowledge (terminating 8 = expanding 9). While in the other direction, we see the number 8 as drawing in the possibilities of the expanded 9 to define the ‘triangular potential’ of infinity and reach new goals (terminating 9 = expanding 8).

By traversing back and forth across The Accordionistic Dovetail Joint diagram we demonstrate the flexibility of its form, and how it can be read in both directions. In other words you could say that in one direction (terminating 8 = expanding 9) the energy of the number 8 is used up, and in the other direction (terminating 9 = expanding 8) the energy of the number 8 is built up. Both cases are possible, while yielding reciprocal results. By pushing out into the realm of possibilities (terminating 8, expanding 9), we effectively free ourselves from the limitations of definition. But alas, the finite mind will always feel compelled to coagulate what it finds (expanding 8, terminating 9).

Going back and forth along this dovetail exchange is endless, and shows how the open end of the number 9 triangle can represent both the implosion of possibilities from nowhere (base to point) as well as the explosion of definition into everywhere (point to base). It also shows us the infinite number of possibilities the mind can reach into, as well as the infinite expansibility of any universe that seeks to define all those possibilities. By applying this potential to a tarot deck design, we can create a system with an unlimited vocabulary capable of describing all events the emerge from the continuum. For more on the creation of that system, continue on to the essay Numbers in Space.
